About Roads and Traffic :
- In India we drive on the left
- Speed-limit: 90 km/h
- There is road tolls on many highways.
- Road conditions goes from modern highway to farm tracks.
- You will not often find markers, and much more rarely in English.
What You Should Know:
It is difficult to give a concise account of conditions in a country as vast as India and varying so widely in its physical road conditions. Some people will call it chaotic in any case, Indian road scenario is a mixture of sound, spectacle and experience.
You will hardly find Indian roads free of traffic. Congestion on roads is a normal phenomenon. In the big cities, you may also encounter frequent traffic jams. Nor can most road users guess what type of vehicle they will face India has a variety of “modes of transport” including overloaded trucks and buses, scooters, cows, bullocks and camel carts, horse or elephant riders as well as cycle-rickshaws and free-roaming livestock. Roads are sometimes poorly maintained. They are notorious for deep pot-holes or manholes. It is very difficult for the drivers to identify them at night which may results in fatal accidents. For this reason, I only drive in daytime (except for transfers within a city or from/to the airport).
About Hotels & Guest-house:
Hotels and guest-houses in India range from simple rooms to glorious palaces and forts that have been converted into luxurious, atmospheric and extraordinary hotels. Room quality can even vary within properties, particularly budget properties.
Question 1: Can You Support Me in Finding Good Hotels or Guesthouses?
Answer : Yes, I can. I know a lot of hotels at every place you will go. Often I also can bargain a better price for you as written in your guidebook. Please simply let me know your preferences and daily budget for accomodation – I will show you suitable places and you decide – AFTER inspecting the room. If you don’t like a hotel or room I will show you alternatives too. I can call the hotel in advance and make a reservation but I never will make a booking without your explicit request.Question 2: Is it Neccessary to Make Hotel Reservations in Advance?
Answer : Usually it is not necessary – only in the high season it could be advisable at some highly frequented places. I will advice you at the beginning of your trip where and how long before you should reserve. And sure, I can manage that for you.Question 3: Should I Book the Hotels before Arrival in India?
Answer : You can do so, but I would not recommend it. In most cases there is no need to do so. Keep in mind that you cannot inspect the room you book from home. Some hotels may charge you for a higher room category in advance and than give you a basic room on arrival.About culture & festivals in India:
